Jonathan Rea enjoyed a race win, a second place finish and set a new lap record in today’s two 11th round World Superbike championship races at Nurburgring in Germany. The other race was won by Japan’s Noriyuki Haga.

Starting from the inside of the front row of the grid, Rea was first into the Nuburgring’s tight first corner in race one and, although pressed hard in the early stages by Haga and Spanish rider, Carlos Checa, the 23-year-old from Northern Ireland was never headed.

Sofuoglu scores another podium in Italy

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu maintained his 100% podium record for the season by finishing third in today’s eighth round World Supersport championship race at Misano in Italy.

The race was won by Honda-mounted Eugene Laverty, who now holds a slender three-point lead over Sofuoglu in the championship standings, with five races remaining.

Starting from sixth place on the grid, Sofuoglu patiently worked his way up to third after a typically frantic World Supersport start. The Turk set the fastest lap of the race on lap six as he hunted down leaders Laverty and Joan Lascorz.

WSS - ETS Racing Fuels' rider : Sofuoglu dominates for US victory

Kenan Sofuoglu won today’s seventh round World Supersport championship race at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA in dominant style, extending his championship lead over fellow Honda rider Eugene Laverty, who finished second.

It was Laverty who grabbed the holeshot on the opening of 18 laps, but by lap four Sofuoglu had overcome a one second deficit to take the lead. In the process, the Turkish ace broke the lap record for a Supersport machine around the 4.907km Miller circuit.

Sofuoglu (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) dominates for US victory

Sofuoglu quickly opened up a two second gap, breaking the lap record twice more on his way to his second successive win at the American circuit and his second victory of the year, maintaining his 100% podium record for the 2010 season.

Joan Lascorz took third place to maintain his championship challenge, while Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, enjoyed a race-long dice with Chaz Davies to take fifth place.

Kenan Sofuoglu – 1st

It has been a difficult weekend and we certainly had some problems to overcome on Friday. The team worked so hard to fix the problems that I was able to start from pole position, which I had not expected. My focus has been on winning all weekend and after Eugene got away at the start I was able to catch and pass him. After that I just worked hard to control the race and keep the gap between me and him. I am very happy for this win and I will be working hard with the team for another in Misano.

Spanish podium delight for Sofuoglu

Kenan Sofuoglu took second place in the third round World Supersport championship race at a sun-drenched Valencia in Spain this afternoon making it three podiums from three starts in the 2010 series.

The race was won by local rider, Joan Lascorz, while Sofuoglu's Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, fought back from a lap three crash to take five valuable points in 11th place.

Starting from third place on the grid, Sofuoglu dropped a position in the early stages of the 23-lap race at the 4.005km Ricardo Tormo circuit. Choosing the harder option tyre, the Turkish rider was able to hang on to early front runner, Eugene Laverty, before slipping past him and Britain's Chaz Davies, who finished third.

Kenan Sofuoglu
– 2nd

I saw on the grid that the Kawasaki's, which had been fast in practice and qualifying, had the softer tyre, but I went for the harder option because we were worried about the temperature. Chaz Davies held me up a bit in the early stages of the race when I really didn't want to let Lascorz or Laverty get away. After I had passed Laverty, I made a couple of mistakes trying to get past Davies and towards the end of the race my tyres were completely broken. I've been suffering from a stomach problem since Portimao which has given me some pain and stomach cramps this week, so I'm pleased with this result and want to thank the team for working so hard to get the bike so good.

DESALLE WINS AND PODIUMS OVERALL IN MANTOVA MX1

Team Suzuki Press Office - April 11.

The Grand Prix of Lombardia, the second round of the FIM MX1 World Championship, delivered the second consecutive podium result for Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1's Clement Desalle as he earned second position overall and also celebrated his first GP victory on the works RM-Z450WS, taking the chequered flag in the opening Moto at a windy and punishing Italian Mantova circuit, crowded by 19,000 spectators.

After a hot and sunny Saturday programme in which the track became rougher and more difficult to judge throughout the day, rainfall in the evening and cloudier, cooler conditions were found on Sunday. The perennially lumpy terrain was still a harsh test and its state of continual ruts and bumps, particularly on the jump take-offs, meant a degree of caution had to be exercised.

Desalle started well and was holding a steady second position when leader David Philippaerts had a heavy crash on the third lap. With a clear track ahead, the Belgian Champion kept a reliable pace and controlled a margin over Antonio Cairoli to give the 2010 RM-Z450WS its maiden spurs this season. Sadly for Desalle he could not repeat his positive launch in Moto2 and pushed hard to reach the top-five and make sure of his second trophy in a week.

Sofuoglu, who finished third at the season opener in Australia, started the 20-lap race around the undulating 4.592km Portimao circuit in relatively conservative fashion, circulating the early laps in fourth place; this despite setting a new circuit best lap during the morning warm-up.

SUZUKI'S ROCZEN AND RAMON WIN HAWKSTONE INTERNATIONAL

Team Suzuki Press Office - March 7.

A crisp and sunny afternoon in Shropshire, England, saw Suzuki take a double victory at the annual Hawkstone Park International; the third and final major pre-season meeting in Europe.

Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1's Steve Ramon guided his works RM-Z450 to his first win of 2010 by going 3rd and 1st in the MX1 class while Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2's Ken Roczen was clearly the fastest competitor in the MX2 division on his RM-Z250 and swept the day with 1-1 scores.
